Simple Kindness to Yourself Can Transform You

"Simple kindness to one's self and all that lives is the most powerful transformational force of all."

~Dr. David Hawkins

When you are kind to yourself and others, you connect with the energy of the universe in a way that has the power to change yourself and others.  Essentially, you open yourself up to the possibility of what you and they can become.  The kindness denotes acceptance of yourself and others on a spiritual level.  Even if you (or they) are not the way you would like to be yet, being kind to youself sends the universe the message that "I deserve."  And when you believe that you deserve good things, you can make them happen.

This week:  Practice being kind to yourself.  Stop yourself from those overly critical thoughts.  They are not helpful. Acknowledge that even though you may not be where you want to be, you are capable and deserving of having the life you want.  Acknowledge and appreciate the things you do.  Practice being kind to others.  Reach out to people you know and to complete strangers.  Talk to that person in line at the grocery store.  Smile.  Call someone you haven't talked to in a while.  Let people know what you appreciate about them. Cherish other living things.  Observe and be at ease with animals.  Appreciate plants. Notice the feelings you have about doing these things.  Notic the transformation that these action begin to bring. That is what it is all about.

Take Time to Express Your Gratitude

"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it".

 ~William Arthur Ward

We are all influenced at some time or in some way by people who have entered our lives and touched us.  They may be central figures in our lives and well known to us, or they may be almost strangers who touch us in some significant way.  You may touch others without realizing it, just as others have touched you without realizing how important that touch was to you.  When you express that gratitude, it is like giving a special gift.  What could be more important, especially at this time of year?

This week:  Take time to reach out to someone who has touched your life in some significant way.  Write them a letter or send them an email and express your gratitude.  Tell them how what they did helped you, changed you or made a difference for you.  Share the specific ways their action or presence impacted you and your life.  Realize that you are not only giving them a gift with your gratitude, but you are also giving yourself an important gift--the realization that you were important enough and special enough that they cared enough to reach out to you.

You Create Your Life By How You Live It

"Everything you see happening is the consequence of that which you are."

~Dr. David Hawkins

We create our lives by how we live them.  If our lives are filled with drama, it is because we have been living that drama and buying into it.  If you are unhappy and dissatisfied, it may be because you have been focused on that unhappiness and dissatisfaction.  When you begin to change your focus and begin to change your thinking, you can begin to change how you are living, and your life circumstances change as well.

This week: Notice where your focus is.  Are you focused on the negative?  If so, is it translating into how your life is turning out?  What do you really believe about yourself?  If you are focused on all that you are lacking, do you also find that your life is lacking?   Really look at how your life is a reflection of yourself.  If you don't like how your life is going, what do you need to change about yourself?  Identifying it is the first important step.  Once you identify what you would like to change, begin to make a plan for changing it.  Ask for help from others if you need it.  The time to create the life you want is NOW.

Life Experiences Create a Way to Transform Yourself

"Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it!"

~Ram Dass

All the experiences we have can be a source of positive learning.  Even the people and events that challenge us or we view as "negative" have a lesson to teach us to help us move forward.  Transformation requires us to be willing to change in a big way.  It requires us to perceive things differently.  We can take the experiences we have had (even the negative ones) and use them to change our lives and those of others.  Our lives and the events we experience are the perfect vehicle to transform us into who we want to be.  The first step?  You have to be willing to believe that it is possible.

This week: Think about some of the experiences that have been significant in your life. If you still have some negative emotions attached to those experiences, begin to think about them in a different way.  What did you learn about yourself from having gone through that experience?  What strengths did you discover?  Where has your life taken you as a result of that experience?  Although you might not have chosen that experience if given a choice about it, what good has come from it?  Now notice the experiences you have this week.  Are there ways of viewing the experience which hold the potential for transformation?  Is there a failure you've learned from?  Is there a success that could move you in a totally different direction?  Where are the opportunities in your experiences for transformation.  If possible, do some writing or journaling about it.  Allow yourself to imagine change coming from an experience in your life.  When you do this, you can begin to see the possibilities for change in everyday experiences.

Make Your Life Count

"Every man dies. Not every man really lives."

~William Wallace

At some point or another, we will all die.  It is an inevitable part of life.  But we can choose how to live.  We can live fully and meaningfully, or we can drift through life until it ends.  To live a meaningful life allows you to make a difference in your life and those around you.  If you are not sure what your life's purpose is, you can create it.

This week:  Think about the mark you would like to leave on the world.  How would you like to be remembered after you die?  Write a eulogy about how you want to be remembered.  Now begin to take a step toward creating that sort of life.  Reach out to others.  Make your life count.
