Believe You Can

"I don't think anything is unrealistic if you believe you can do it."

~Mike Ditka

The importance of belief is everything.  If you believe you cannot do something, you are absolutely right, you won't be able to do it.  If you believe you can, you have created the possibility of success.  That's all it takes--just the possibility.  Once you conceive of the possibility of being able to do something, you open the door to making it happen.  Too often we limit ourselves with our beliefs.  You make not know if you can achieve it or not, but when you believe it is possible, achieving it is no longer an unrealistic expectation.  You will just have to test it out.

This week:  Think of a time in your life when you believed you could do something, even if you didn't know how to do it yet.  What happened?  Were you successful?  If so, what make you successful.  Write down these circumstances as they will give you a hint at some resources you've used in the past that have made you successful.  If you were not successful, why not?  What would you have had to do differently to succeed?  What beliefs, talents, skills or knowledge would you have needed to be able to do it?  Those also provide hints about resources which can help you become successful.  Now, ask yourself what you have been postponing or avoiding because you haven't thought it was possible.  What might you get if you changed that belief?

Learn to Do What You Cannot Do By Doing It Your Own Way

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

~Pablo Picasso

There may be many things that you believe you cannot do because you have not yet learned to do them.  When we think that we cannot, we make that outcome true.  If you can tell yourself that you simply need to learn how to do it, that can change the outcome from impossible to possible.

This week:  Think of something you don't know how to do--yet.  Pick something that you would like to be able to do.  Ask yourself if it would be possible to learn to do it if you were really committed to learning and mastery.  What would it take?  How much time?  How much practice?  Would the expertise of someone else help you learn?  Is there someone you can model?  Think about Picasso.  He didn't do things the ways others did.  Was that because he hadn't learned to do it their way, and needed to learn his OWN way?  How can you apply this in your life--to learn to do things your own way?

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and trainer at the Inner Resource Center, LLC.  She believes that all people carry within themselves the resources to meet their life's challenges, they just need to access them.  She is an expert at helping people identify their resources and utilize them to stretch farther than they had thought possible.  For more information about how she does it, got to http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/

Moving Toward Your Goals Despite "Failures"

"Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.”

~Winston Churchill

Face it.  When you try to accomplish things, there will inevitably be "failures."  Accomplishing goals takes effort and enthusiasm to keep going when things are not going well.  That enthusiasm serves as motivation.  It allows you to take the so-called "failure" and utilize it as feedback.  When you are pursuing your goals, there may be obstacles and set-backs.  But you can count yourself successful when you keep moving forward--finding ways around those obstacles, and keeping your enthusiasm despite those set-backs.

This week:  Think about a goal you have achieved in your life--despite the set-backs and obstacles.  Think back on the obstacles you overcame and how you did it.  What resources did you use?  What support did you need to keep going?  How can you use this information the next time you face obstacles in pursuing your goal?

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people overcome the obstacles to their goals.  She uses her 30 plus years of experience and knowledge of solution focused techniques to support her clients in creating satisfying, meaningful, magnificent lives.  For more information about her or the services she provides, go to http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/

Living Your Potential Requires Courage

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.

~e.e. cummings

It takes courage to accept your calling and move into living fully and purposefully. Who you really are encompasses your personality, your spirit, your life purpose and your soul. Growing up and becoming who you really are means no longer hiding your potential. It means actualizing all that you are capable of being. It means doing all you are capable of doing. It means living fully and authentically.

This week: Consider what your life would be like if you had the courage to live your potential, to live fully. If you embraced your purpose and calling, how would your life be different? How would the lives of others be different? What would you accomplish if you knew you could not fail? Now consider what you need in order to have this sort of courage. What resources could help you? Breathe deeply and imagine yourself having all the resources you need. You do, you know.

Take Steps to Be the Person You Might Have Been--and Can Be

"It is never too late to be who you might have been."

~George Eliot

If you have been waiting to be the person you were intended to be, wait no longer. Waiting for circumstances to be "just right" to allow you to pursue your dream, find your life's purpose or realize your potential simply ensures that you postpone the meaning that your life could express.

This week: Sit down with a piece of paper. Think about what you've been postponing. Have you wanted a different career, relationship or life? What is missing? What blocks you from being all you can be? Imagine what you could be if you knew you could not fail. Think about what you need to get there. If there are obstacles, think about what resources you have that could help you achieve that life of greater meaning. Ask for help if you need it.

Adversity Shapes Us

"We all have to go through the tumbler a few times before we can emerge as a crystal."

~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Going through the ups and downs that life brings you may not be the most fun thing to do, but it shapes you, polishes you, and turns you into the gem that you are capable of becoming. Those hard adversities allow you to appreciate what is most important in your life. They help you understand, claim and enforce your boundaries--the guidelines you set up about how you demand to be treated. They help you learn what resources you have inside you, and what resources others can offer to help you get through those hard times. Maybe most importantly, they teach you about yourself and your strengths and capabilities. In spite of how hard it might be, you can survive. You have survived.

This week: Review the adversities you have encountered in your life so far. Examine how you handled them. What was most important for you? What did you learn about yourself? How did it shape who you are right now? What strengths did you develop as a result? Express gratitude for all you gained from those experiences. Honor yourself for getting through it.

The Answer Lies Within You

"Don't look to others for what is right - look to yourself and do it."

~Dalai Llama
You hold within yourself the moral yardstick which tells you what it right and what is not. Depending on others to tell you isn't necessary, and it isn't even a good idea. You live in your skin, and know what is right for you. When you pay attention to that inner voice, that intuition that tells you what to do, and you do it, you will feel much greater calm than listening to others. Whether you believe that voice comes from within you or from God, it will guide you if you pay attention. When you heed that voice, even when doing it is hard, you will feel the satisfaction that comes from doing what is right and being true to your own values.
This week: Notice when others a living their lives in a way that doesn't seem right to you. This isn't about judging them; it is about noticing that depending on others to guide you may not be the best idea. Notice when what others do is different than what is right for you. Do at least one thing this week that follows YOUR own view of what is right. Remember, this isn't about making someone else wrong; it is about acknowledging that you know what is right.
