The Real Key to Authenticity

 "Become who you are."

~Nietzsche

We hear a lot about being "authentic."  The key to authenticity is to be who you really are.  So many people put on masks to disguise who they really are with their coworkers, peers and even with their loved ones.  All of us have a core identity composed of who we really are and are intended to be.  To "become who you are" you must allow that real you to peek out and begin to act in ways that are congruent with that "you."  This means living in accordance to your values, sharing who you are with others--warts and all.  Often it means living in accordance with your life's true purpose, even if it isn't the popular way of doing things.  As you become who you really are, you really begin to live authentically and people will be attracted to that authenticity.

This week:  Think about who you really are.  Think about what you've tried to hide about yourself from the world.  Just for this ONE WEEK, practice being who you really are with at least one person.  You can pick a complete stranger or someone close to you.  Notice how it feels when the mask is down.  Do you feel vulnerable?  Uncertain?  Fearful of rejection?  Or do you feel free?  Unleashed?  Maybe a combination of all of these feelings?  Notice the reaction of that person to you being who you really are.  At the end of the week evaluate whether you chose wisely the person to share yourself with authentically.  What would you do differently next time?  Use this information to make decisions about trusting others with "the real you."

Life Experiences Create a Way to Transform Yourself

"Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it!"

~Ram Dass

All the experiences we have can be a source of positive learning.  Even the people and events that challenge us or we view as "negative" have a lesson to teach us to help us move forward.  Transformation requires us to be willing to change in a big way.  It requires us to perceive things differently.  We can take the experiences we have had (even the negative ones) and use them to change our lives and those of others.  Our lives and the events we experience are the perfect vehicle to transform us into who we want to be.  The first step?  You have to be willing to believe that it is possible.

This week: Think about some of the experiences that have been significant in your life. If you still have some negative emotions attached to those experiences, begin to think about them in a different way.  What did you learn about yourself from having gone through that experience?  What strengths did you discover?  Where has your life taken you as a result of that experience?  Although you might not have chosen that experience if given a choice about it, what good has come from it?  Now notice the experiences you have this week.  Are there ways of viewing the experience which hold the potential for transformation?  Is there a failure you've learned from?  Is there a success that could move you in a totally different direction?  Where are the opportunities in your experiences for transformation.  If possible, do some writing or journaling about it.  Allow yourself to imagine change coming from an experience in your life.  When you do this, you can begin to see the possibilities for change in everyday experiences.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and certified trainer.  She often works intensively with clients to help them move forward quickly and transform some area of their life.  "You have to be willing and ready," she says, "but you can make significant, lasting, transformative changes in as little as 4 days."  She utilizes her 30+ years of experience and cutting edge techniques to bring about change easily.  For more information, go to http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/

Let Your Experiences Transform You

Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it!"

~ Ram Dass

All the experiences we have in our lives--whether positive or negative--contribute to our learning of important lessons. Those lessons tell us about ourselves and about others. Those lessons are not about judging ourselves or others, but provide us with a vehicle to transform our lives. When we get the positive learning from any of the experiences in our lives, we are able to let go of negative emotions and limiting beliefs which have sabotaged our success and happiness. The key is beginning to use the learning in all your life's experiences to move you forward and transform your self and your life.

This week: Notice the learning in each of the experiences you have this week, whether they are positive or negative. Ask yourself if those experiences and that learning could bring about opportunities for transformation. What would have to happen for you to be able to transform yourself from that experience. Journal about these experiences and the opportunities for transformation they could/do provide.
