Letting Go of That Familiar Suffering

People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.

~Thich Nhat Hanh

Unfortunately, people get used to having their problems, even though they are uncomfortable and cause suffering. They may KNOW how to be depressed, or poor, or sick. Contemplating anything else is a bit scary. Contemplating and taking action to do or be something else is even scarier still.

There are plenty of techniques to help you let go of suffering, but the key is that you first must WANT to let it go.

This week: Think about how your life would be different if you could get rid of the suffering you do. Would you have more time? More energy? More money? Better health? If your suffering were gone, would you lose your excuses? Your drama?

Just consider whether it might be nice to be able to have the life you've dreamed of, instead of the life you think you are stuck with.

Meaning and Money

"It is more rewarding to watch money change the world than watch it accumulate."

~ Gloria Steinem

Sometimes we get so caught up in pursuing money and our financial goals that we forget that money is a means to an end. Having money isn't about just accumulating it. Money becomes useful because of what it allows us to do.

This week: Think about what you want to DO with the financial abundance you are creating. How can you make your money COUNT? How would you like to change the world?

Your Perceptions Are Determined by Who You Are

"We don't see things as they are. We see things as we are."
~Anais Nin

The way we perceive things is determined by who we are--our experiences, our beliefs, our attitudes, our emotional states, our personalities, and our world view. All those things color how we perceive the things around us. If you aren't happy with how the world is treating you, take a look at how you perceive the world and those around you.

This week: Ask yourself, "Do my attitudes reflect the kind of life I'd like to be living?" If not, ask yourself "What would I have to believe and how would I have to peceive things in order to live the kind of life I'd like to have?"

Success Often Comes From Failure

Most people achieved their greatest successes
one step beyond what looked like their greatest failure.
~Brian Tracy

Many times we think we shouldn't ever fail, but failure may provide us with the very feedback we need in order to refine our ideas and make them work. If you try to avoid failure, you often may not do the things necessary to succeed.

When you do fail (and all of us fail at some time or another), use that experience to guide you about what to do NEXT. How can you fix what failed? What is the next step? Focus on using the failure as feedback, and keep going!

Sometimes the success is even sweeter because of those failures along the way. Remember how many times Edison failed with the light bulb?

This week: Notice the things that didn't go according to your plan this week. Notice what didn't work. Use that as information to help you modify your plan, so that you keep moving forward. What will your success look like when you achieve it?

Living with Passion

"Passion is the Genesis of Genius"
~Anthony Robbins
Tony is absolutely right about this! Passion really ignites energy, and allows the creative process to take off. When you feel passion about something, it drives you forward. It feeds your soul. It drives you to step up and stretch yourself beyond what you thought might be possible. This energy, this drive, this passion, creates the kernel, the beginning seed of genius. When combined with ACTION, the genius in your plans can take off and really begin to make a difference.
This week: Use YOUR passion to begin to create the genius necessary. Start to make a difference about what is most important to you.
