You Need to Be Able to Communicate Your Ideas

"You can have brilliant ideas, but if you cannot get them
across, your ideas will not get you anywhere."

~Lee Iaccoco

The ability to communicate your ideas to others is important.  Not because you need others to approve of your ideas, but because when you share your ideas you clarify your thinking and those ideas become better, more productive, more achievable.  There is a synergy that happens when ideas are shared that sometimes makes the resulting ideas even more brilliant.  You need to take the time to formulate your ideas in a way that can be communicated when you are ready to move them forward.  While you may need some time to be ready to share your ideas, time to think them through, time to articulate them into an understandable form, in the end you need to be able to share them.  Think where we might be if Einstein had not shared his ideas...

This week: Think about the ideas that have been floating around in your head for awhile.  Have you communicated them to anyone?  If not, why not?  What would need to happen for you to be ready to share them?  This week, take one small step to get ready to share your idea.  It might be to spend some time thinking about what you would tell or who you would tell.  It might be actually talking with someone about it.  It might be answering your own questions about your idea:  why? what?  how?  what if?  Take some action to move your idea forward this week.  Then notice how that feels.

Are You a Pessimist or an Optimist?

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

~Winston Churchill

It all has to do with your perception.  Pessimists focus on what isn't working or won't work--all the difficulties.  An optimist focuses on opportunities and doesn't allow the difficulties to block them.  Which are you?  Which focus would help you move forward in your life?

This week:  Experiment with focusing on the opportunities in the obstacles that confront you.  It may seem artificial or contrived, but it will allow you to practice changing your focus.  Notice what the difficulties allow you to learn.  Assume, just for this week, that you can overcome any obstacle or difficulty that presents itself.  Sometimes that is enough to change the focus on the obstacle and find solutions.  Put your brain to work at solving the difficulty.  Your brain is exceptionally good at finding solutions when you get your pessimism out of the way.  At the end of the week, notice what your experience was like.  Can you build on it?

You Have to Take Action

"Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

~Will Rogers

It doesn't matter if you are on the right track if you don't take action to move forward. You can have the best ideas and they won't get you anywhere. Steady movement forward towards the outcome you have envisioned builds momentum and speed, and, just like the locomotive, you'll reach your destination.

This week: Take one of your ideas and take some action to move forward. Now build on that and continue to take action, doing something every day. At the end of the week, take stock in what you have accomplished. Are you on the right track? If not, shift gears and take some more action on another track. The key is taking action.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people take the necessary action to reach their goals. She knows you can create momentum by taking small steps and continuing to move forward. She specializes in helping people who are feeling stuck in their life or their careers. Success Does Not Mean Perfection

"Aim for success, not perfection.

Never give up your right to be wrong,

because then you will lose the ability

to learn new things

and move forward with your life."

~Dr. David Burns

When you aim for perfection, you insure frustration and disappointment because no one can be perfect. Often it is better to define your success as 90%. You will learned from your experiences and will be able to move on in your life. Often the best lessons are learned from mistakes--not perfection.

This week: Notice how often you attempt to "be perfect." This week, change your definition of success to 90%, and notice what happens. Are you able to move on more quickly and easily? Do you still have the learning necessary for future efforts?
