The Answer Lies Within You

"Don't look to others for what is right - look to yourself and do it."

~Dalai Llama
You hold within yourself the moral yardstick which tells you what it right and what is not. Depending on others to tell you isn't necessary, and it isn't even a good idea. You live in your skin, and know what is right for you. When you pay attention to that inner voice, that intuition that tells you what to do, and you do it, you will feel much greater calm than listening to others. Whether you believe that voice comes from within you or from God, it will guide you if you pay attention. When you heed that voice, even when doing it is hard, you will feel the satisfaction that comes from doing what is right and being true to your own values.
This week: Notice when others a living their lives in a way that doesn't seem right to you. This isn't about judging them; it is about noticing that depending on others to guide you may not be the best idea. Notice when what others do is different than what is right for you. Do at least one thing this week that follows YOUR own view of what is right. Remember, this isn't about making someone else wrong; it is about acknowledging that you know what is right.

Be Willing to Change Your Plans

"We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us."

~ Joseph Campbell
So often we allow ourselves to be "stuck" because we are waiting for or struggling to have the life we had planned to have. While there's nothing wrong with setting goals for your life or planning the sort of life you would like to have, sometimes you have to be willing to let go of those plans. You have to be willing to embrace the life that is presenting itself. Unless you are willing to explore the opportunities that are presenting themselves for a different life--one you had not planned for--you may miss out on great joy and a chance to make a difference.

This week: Allow yourself to notice the direction your life seems to be going. Are there opportunities there you had not allowed yourself acknowledge? Ask yourself: "What would happen if I let go of the life I had planned to have? Are there new opportunities out there for me?" Explore possibilities, if only in your imagination.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people create new directions in their lives and take action to achieve those goals they had not even dreamed possible. She specializes in helping people overcome negative emotions from the past and limiting beliefs that block success and happiness. You Have to Take Action

"Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

~Will Rogers

It doesn't matter if you are on the right track if you don't take action to move forward. You can have the best ideas and they won't get you anywhere. Steady movement forward towards the outcome you have envisioned builds momentum and speed, and, just like the locomotive, you'll reach your destination.

This week: Take one of your ideas and take some action to move forward. Now build on that and continue to take action, doing something every day. At the end of the week, take stock in what you have accomplished. Are you on the right track? If not, shift gears and take some more action on another track. The key is taking action.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people take the necessary action to reach their goals. She knows you can create momentum by taking small steps and continuing to move forward. She specializes in helping people who are feeling stuck in their life or their careers. Your Facial Expression Forms That First Impression

"Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important."

~Janet Lane
Your facial expression helps people form their first impression of you. Is your expression tense? Serious? Angry? Or is it peaceful? Relaxed? Contented? You don't have to be deliriously happy and giggling all the time. But your expression does portray to those around you the emotional state you are experiencing, and can help attract or detract from the message you are trying to send to others.
This week: Pay attention to your facial expression, or ask a friend or family member to cue you when your facial expression doesn't match the message you'd like to convey. Practice making faces in the mirror. Notice which emotions are conveyed through your typical facial expressions. Ask yourself if this is the message you want to send? If necessary, practice relaxing the muscles in your face and notice how that looks.

Waiting Doesn't Make It Happen

"If your ship doesn't come in, swim out to meet it!"

~ Jonathan Winters

When I was in my teens and 20s, I used to believe that "all things comes to those who wait." And I wondered why my I didn't have any of the things that I wanted. Then, in discouragement, I thought that probably "when my ship comes in, I'll be at the airport." It took me a while to figure out that I needed to TAKE ACTION to make things happen that I wanted. I need to be responsible for going out to get what is most important. Unless I am willing to prepare the harbor, that ship won't come in. I may have to go out and guide it in.

This week: Figure out what ACTION you can take to help bring your ship (your dream) closer to you. Then, TAKE THE ACTION. Do it now.
Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert at helping people reach those dreams they had not thought possible. She specializes in helping people move beyond the "emotional clutter"--those negative emotions and limiting beliefs that block their dreams.
