Life Should be Enjoyed

"Maybe you are here on earth to learn that life is what you make of it, and it's to be enjoyed."
~Dick Sutphen

The concept that life is to be enjoyed is pretty foreign to a lot of people. Many people believe that life is difficult, life is a series of challenges, that they will never succeed or be happy. In reality, you can choose how you react to the circumstances in which you find yourself. Think about how different your life would be if you chose to be happy?

This week: Set an intention and be determined to live your life as if it is to be enjoyed. Hit an obstacle? Ask yourself "how does this fit with a life to be enjoyed?" Do you have to give importance to snags you hit? Move on through them. Be determined to enjoy life in spite of the hiccups that life may throw you.

Dream BIG

"The universe will fill your cup — if you carry a big cup, a little cup, or a thimble!"

~Sonia Choquette

Whatever you think about or dream about, you hold the power to make happen. So, dream BIG! Allow the universe to fill a big cup--of abundance, of joy, of creativity, of love, of all the things you most want.

This week: Take an outcome you would like to have happen, and expand it. Create a BIG dream. Then notice what happens in you. Are you filled with ideas about how to make it happen? Or does your self doubt make you believe it is impossible? Challenge yourself. Keep dreaming big until those dreams begin to manifest. Your imagination is like a muscle that needs to be stretched.

Live with Meaning and Joy!

"Maybe you are here on earth to learn that life is what you make of it, and it's to be enjoyed."
~Dick Sutphen
Sometimes people think that they are victims of Fate or circumstances. They work hard to live their lives in a meaningful way, but forget to enjoy the time they have on this earth. I believe that when you have discovered your life's purpose, and begin to live it, you can more fully enjoy your life. You can choose the life you want to live--by choosing how you react to the circumstances that occur. You make the meaning of your life, and you can choose to live your life with with joy!
This week: Look for opportunities to choose to change the meaning you assign to the circumstances and events in your life. Put yourself in charge of making your life the way you want it, rather than reacting to it. And along the way, look for opportunities this week to enjoy yourself. Then, at the end of the week, notice what you think about the week that has passed. Is it better? More joyful? Do you feel less like a "victim?"

Help Love Grow

"Love is like a mustard seed; planted by God and watered by men."

~Muda Saint Michael

Love is sacred, but must be nurtured in order to grow. We water it by giving it to others, noticing it when others water it too. Love needs to be shared in order to grow.

This week: Express your love and caring to others around you. Even if you don't have a special romantic love interest, nurture love by expressing it to those you meet in your every day life--the clerk in the store, the man in the street, your co-workers. Give them your love by smiling, by saying "hello," and by acknowledging their presence with warmth and caring.

Notice the Small Signs of Happiness

"Happiness is not a matter of intensity

but of balance and order

and rhythm and harmony."

~Thomas Merton

We sometimes think that being happy means we much be ecstatically happy. We sometimes think that our happiness needs to show itself intensely. In fact, happiness is a continuum, from contentment and satisfaction to joy and esctasy. Rather than expecting happiness always to be intense, wouldn't it be better to enjoy the happiness which comes from balance and order, and rhythm and harmony?

This week: Notice the times when you feel content. Notice the small moments when you are enjoying yourself. Rather than looking for an emotional "high," notice if there is happiness associated with feeling centered and balanced. Notice the happiness associated with the rhythms of life. Enjoy quiet happiness.

Find Joy Inside Yourself

"Joy is not in things; it is in us."

~Richard Wagner

When we look for joy or happiness in things we own, or in externals, we rob ourselves of the experience of discovering that feeling welling up from inside ourselves. It isn't where you live, what car you drive, or how nice you look; joy is the gift you give yourself when you discover those moments when you are truly alive in the present moment.

This week: Pay attention to those moments when you experience happiness or joy. Ask yourself: "What do I appreciate about my life right now? How can I connect with the joy that is inside me?"
