Take Steps to Be the Person You Might Have Been--and Can Be

"It is never too late to be who you might have been."

~George Eliot

If you have been waiting to be the person you were intended to be, wait no longer. Waiting for circumstances to be "just right" to allow you to pursue your dream, find your life's purpose or realize your potential simply ensures that you postpone the meaning that your life could express.

This week: Sit down with a piece of paper. Think about what you've been postponing. Have you wanted a different career, relationship or life? What is missing? What blocks you from being all you can be? Imagine what you could be if you knew you could not fail. Think about what you need to get there. If there are obstacles, think about what resources you have that could help you achieve that life of greater meaning. Ask for help if you need it.

Find Passion in Your Career

"If you can't find passion for anything in your business you are in a wrong business - get out now!"

~Adam Urbanski

Life is too short to spend your time and energy working at something for which you feel no passion at all. You owe it to yourself, your customers or clients, and your employer (especially if your employer is you) to bring passion to your business.

This week: Ask yourself: What excites me about what I do for a living? What do I really enjoy about it? What special talent or product do I bring to the world? What do I want the world to know about what I do? How does what I do make a difference, even a small one, in the lives of others? If you are bored and jaded with your career, remember what it was that appealed to you about it in the first place. See if you can reconnect with the passion that you once felt. If not, ask yourself: "What DO I feel passionate about?" It may be time to redesign your career.

You Have to Take Action

"Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

~Will Rogers

It doesn't matter if you are on the right track if you don't take action to move forward. You can have the best ideas and they won't get you anywhere. Steady movement forward towards the outcome you have envisioned builds momentum and speed, and, just like the locomotive, you'll reach your destination.

This week: Take one of your ideas and take some action to move forward. Now build on that and continue to take action, doing something every day. At the end of the week, take stock in what you have accomplished. Are you on the right track? If not, shift gears and take some more action on another track. The key is taking action.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people take the necessary action to reach their goals. She knows you can create momentum by taking small steps and continuing to move forward. She specializes in helping people who are feeling stuck in their life or their careers. Be the Best You Can Be

“Whatever you are, be a good one.”
~Abraham Lincoln
All of us have a path to take in this life, and no matter what you are, you owe it to yourself and others to strive for excellence. If you want to make a difference, if you want your life to count, be the best that you can be. No matter what career you hold, be good at it.
This week: Identify an area in your career (or in some other area of your life) where you could improve. What would you need to do differently? What would you need to know? What steps could you take to bring about that improvement? What is the first step? Begin to do it. Notice how it feels to commit yourself to excellence.
Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and expert in helping people achieve excellence in a way that is meaningful.
