"Look at life through the windshield, not the rear-view mirror."

~Byrd Baggett

Too many times we are focused on things that happened to us in the past. It is as if we are looking at life through the rear-view mirror. When you focus on the past, you remain stuck in the past. If you want to get unstuck and move ahead toward your goals, you need to look where you are going. Focusing on where you want to go helps you create the circumstances that carry you toward your goal.

This week: Imagine you are taking a trip someplace you have always wanted to go. Now, imagine as you move toward that destination, you are looking behind you. Imagine taking this trip totally focused on where you have been. Can you even get to your destination when you are focused in another direction? Now, imagine aiming for a place right in front of you. Move toward it. Look in the direction you want to go, not in the direction you have already been. Now imagine how much easier it will be to reach your GOALS if you focus on what is ahead of you, rather than what has happened in the past.

Desire Is Not Enough for Success

"Desire is the key to motivation, but it's the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek."

~Mario Andretti

Although the desire to have success is very important, it is not enough. In order to succeed you have to be determined to succeed. You have to be committed to doing your very best for as long as you need to do it. Despite how much we would like it to happen, success usually doesn't happen overnight. It is the result of hard work, perserverence, commitment and determination. Your goal has to be compelling enough for you to commit yourself to doing what it will take.

This week: Take a good look at one of your goals. Is it compelling enough for you? Or is it just something on your "to do" list? Are you willing to put in the time, energy and money to make it happen? Are you determined to achieve it? Are you committed to an unrelenting pursuit of excellence to achieve it? If not, consider reworking your goals. The type of goals you set and your willingness to commit to them can make all the difference in your success.

The First Step to Getting the Most Out of Life

"The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this:

Decide what you want."

~Ben Stein

We sometimes forget that if we don't know where we are going, it will be tough to get there. In order to get the things you want from your life, you first must decide what you want. Once you've envisioned the outcome you are seeking, you can begin to put into place a plan to get there step-by-step.

This Week: Think about what you want to get out of your life. Decide what you want. Do you want it enough to work for it? If it is really something you want, are you ready to put together a plan to get there? This is the perfect time of year to be doing this type of planning!

Play Full-Out for Success

"I can't imagine a person becoming a success
who doesn't give this game of life everything he's got."
~Walter Cronkite
When you play at your goals half-heartedly, you get inconsistent or half-hearted results. In order to really be successful, you have to want it fully--your goal needs to be COMPELLING. When you have a compelling goal and play the game of life full out, you can create a life that is full and joyful.
This week: Think about your current goals. Are they compelling? If not, how could you redefine your goal so that you'd want to play full-out? Redefine your goal to make it compelling. If you want more tips about how to make your goals more successful, download Banish the Goal Setting Gremlins and Reach Your Highest Potential at http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/signupforteleseminar.html and click on "free audio."
