Enjoy the Dance

"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way."

~Wayne Dyer

Although I am a big believer in setting goals to move you forward in your life, life isn't only about achieving and getting to some destination.  As we move toward our goals in life, it is just as important to take breaks and enjoy our lives.  It isn't just the destination; we also need to enjoy the dance. When you do that you are most likely living in a balanced way that makes life both exciting and fulfilling.

This week:  Build some time to enjoy yourself into your schedule.  Take some time off from your goals to do something you really enjoy.  Take some time for yourself.  Take some time to be with others.  Notice how much more energy you have when you return to work on your goals.  Do this often for one week and notice the difference.  Next, see if you can build some enjoyment into the steps toward reaching your goals.  If nothing else, build "dance time" in a reward for actions you take toward your goal.

It surely is easy to get totally focused on the goal and forget to enjoy the moments along the way. Great advice, Linda.

Thanks for the reminder to make time for fun stuff. I love to close the door and shut the shades and turn up the music. I can't dance worth a flip, but it is so freeing to just let go. I haven't done that in a while. I think it is time.

I recently ran across a discussion about "time in" and "time out". Time in is that focused time, when you really are focused on your goals. Time out is time to replenish yourself and your energy. It has helped me to think about dividing my days into Time In and Time Out.

I love this reminder. Last Friday I had no scheduled appointments. That little devilish voice as guilting me into doing some 'busy' something. But then I heard the other voice in the distance saying, "What do you want?" My answer was to go fly fishing. I listened. I had the best single day fly fishing since moving to the Appalachian Mountain Region. It was pure natural joy.
Thanks Linda,
Jeff

Linda, That is a timely reminder! And Jeff, it's awesome that you listened to your inner voice and went fly fishing. I think our guilt-inducing, you-should-work-harder voice kicks in way too often for our own good!

Perfect timing! I've been so very focused on this recording project I've been working on - aside from a short visit with my dad - I've taken very little time just to be with me. And, I'm dang good company!

One of the things I love about working at home is I can take a walk outside to enjoy my farm and my horses whenever I need a little break. There's something so uplifting to me about rubbing their noses!
