Real Decisions Require Action

"A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided."

~Anthony Robbins

Many people say they have made a decision about something; yet do nothing about it.  Real decisions require you to take some action.  The action brings that decision to life.  Deciding, then sitting and waiting keep you in the same position you were before you made that decision.  The purpose of the decision is to activate yourself in some particular direction.  If you are not ready to take action, you are not ready to make the decision.  That's OK.  It is better than pretending that you have made the decision, yet doing nothing to move forward.

This week:  As you face decisions this week that need to be made, ask yourself as part of the decision-making process "Am I ready to take action on this once I decide?"  If not, look carefully at your reluctance.  Is it because of doubts about your decision?  Do you not have all the informatoin you need?  Challenge yourself to make a decision and take at least some small action associated with it.  That will help you move forward and actually make the decision easier to embrace.  Decisions often require us to stretch ourselves, and their may be some concern about whether we are ready to do that.  But if you take just one small action step, then another and another, you will build the momentum you need.  But you HAVE to take that first step.

This reminds me of my first grade teacher, Mrs. Cary, who insisted we take ONE SMALL STEP each day toward learning a new word in our readers. She never focused on reading that whole book about Dick and Jane, just did it one word at a time. Thank you, Mrs. Carey.

Your post was so helpful in my understanding of something I put in my book - trusting my instinct when my intellect had not yet caught up. And you help bring them together. What I said was that 'choosing' is internal and 'deciding' is external. Now I know just exactly why that is so ... because of how you've explained decisions. Thank you Linda.

Linda, I remember a part of a story. A man at a fork in the road was challenged to Choose His Path. His response for several times was "I'm not sure or I don't know." Finally he got it - he just needed to start walking. Good one and inspiring for tiny steps.

I read a quote by Walt Disney that said basically, what you do in the first 24 hours of coming up with an idea will determine the chances of it coming to fruition. I have reserved a lot of url's with that in mind, but also taken bold action when I otherwise might have held back. Thanks for reminding me of this today!

I sometimes get overwhelmed when I have a great idea. I get so passionate about it I want to do it all- now. Then, I get scared and drop it. Taking small steps towards my goals is vital. Thanks so much for the reminder.

Well stated. I especially appreciate the point about the relationship between decisions and actions...even little actions. I think that when I take action in the direction of my decision, it feels like the whole Universe rushes in to support me. I feel buoyed by Grace. Thank you for helping me understand this!

Perfect timing! There are things on my list that are important and I continually allow them to slide. So, taking nice deep breath, I'm going to play a little differently this week!
