Break Overwheming Tasks into Manageable Pieces

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
The secret of getting started is breaking
your complex overwhelming tasks
into small manageable tasks,
and then starting on the first one."
~Mark Twain
Too often we stop ourselves from taking on a task because we're overwhelmed by the size of it. You won't ever achieve your task if you don't START. Part of developing an action plan to get to your goal is to break it into small pieces--preferably pieces you can do in 20 minutes or less.
When you do that, you can build momentum by accomplish A LOT of small tasks. Before you know it, you'll be half-way through your big task without realizing how you got there. (That's how I wrote my dissertation and every book or project I've ever done).
This week: Think about a task you've been postponing because it is overwhelming. Figure out how you can break it into tiny pieces that you can accomplish in 20 minutes or less. Think SMALL to accomplish something BIG. Begin to do those small tasks, one after the other, steadily. Do one each day. At the end of the week, notice how far you've come. Keep it up!
