You Are In Charge of Time

"Time flies. It’s up to you to be the navigator."

 ~Robert Orben

It doesn't matter if you are "ready or not" time moves forward.  It is up to each of us to decide how we want to spend that time.  We are in charge of it.  We get to decide what is important or not important, what we need to attend to and how we spend our time.  Too many people think they are the "victim" of time that is outside of their control.  For them, time is like a runaway airplane, taking them places they don't want to go--or crashing into the barren desert.  In reality, though, we each control our own time.  Seize control and go where YOU want to go with your time.

This week:  Begin to notice how you are spending your time.  Notice in particular when you feel that you are not controlling your time.  When you catch yourself feeling out of control, ask yourself:  Is this an important way to be spending my time?  If not, figure out how you gave away the controls.  Reclaim them by saying "no" or refocusing your attention on things that matter.  Notice if it feels better to be doing what matters most.

Linda - you always know how to put things into perspective. It's like our conversation today about work and how to approach it. What a difference in 'control'.

AND congratulations on your award for Best Coaching Blog. You are AWESOME!

One of the biggest things I found as I've struggled with time is that when I feel it is out of control, it is because I'm allowing judgment ... the false judgment that finds its base in the broken measurement of time. I'm doing my best to move to a measurement system of "impact."
Thanks Linda for making me think about this today!

Agree completely that we are in control of our time. It's those unexpected time-stealers that really get in my way.

Some I can ignore; some I can't.

Thanks Linda for another great post.

I heard the advice one time to track how much time we spend each day on various activities. Do this for several days, and then we have the answer to the question "Where does the time go?" and we can better figure out what to do about it.

Having just returned from facilitating a womens retreat in France, I was inundated with tasks. Taking note of my energy level,I realized that the most important 'to do' was relax and rest!
