Good Judgment Comes from Our Experiences With Bad Judgment

"Good judgment comes from experience,

and often experience comes from bad judgment."

~Rita Mae Brown

We often forget that we develop good judgment from the mistakes we've made in the past. Those experiences of bad judgment teach us important lessons which (hopefully) keep us from making those mistakes repeatedly. Appreciate your experiences, both good and bad, for they have much to teach you.

This week: Notice when you make a mistake, when your judgment wasn't perfect. Ask yourself "What can I learn from this experience that will help me in the future?" Pay attention to the lesson. What will you do differently next time?

Notice the Small Signs of Happiness

"Happiness is not a matter of intensity

but of balance and order

and rhythm and harmony."

~Thomas Merton

We sometimes think that being happy means we much be ecstatically happy. We sometimes think that our happiness needs to show itself intensely. In fact, happiness is a continuum, from contentment and satisfaction to joy and esctasy. Rather than expecting happiness always to be intense, wouldn't it be better to enjoy the happiness which comes from balance and order, and rhythm and harmony?

This week: Notice the times when you feel content. Notice the small moments when you are enjoying yourself. Rather than looking for an emotional "high," notice if there is happiness associated with feeling centered and balanced. Notice the happiness associated with the rhythms of life. Enjoy quiet happiness.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and NLP trainer. She helps people let go of "emotional clutter" that stands in the way of being happy. To contact her, go to http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/

Pointing Out Errors Isn't Very Helpful

"It is one thing to show a man that he is in error,

and another to put him in possession of truth."

John Locke

Too often we are eager to point out the mistakes others make in their lives. It is more useful to share information to help someone find their truth. No one has all the answers, and mistakes are only an opportunity for additional learning.

This week: When you notice an error, think about how you can help the person find their truth from the experience. Often that doesn't involve telling him or her what they have done wrong, but it might mean pointing out that there are other ways to approach the task.

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and trainer. She specializes in helping people learn through the methods that work best for them, and encourages them to see mistakes not as failures, but as feedback. She can be reached through http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/ .

Your Beliefs Determine Who You Are

"Man is what he believes."

~Anton Chekhov

Our beliefs really DO determine who we are. What we believe about ourselves determines whether or not we try something, and it is likely to determine whether or not we fail or succeed. Our beliefs shape our view of the world. We operate on our beliefs as if they were true and defend those beliefs in spite of evidence to the contrary. When given a choice to believe in yourself or not, pick the belief that empowers you.

This week: Examine your beliefs about yourself. What beliefs do you hold that empower you? Which keep you stuck? Which limit your ability to succeed? If your beliefs are limiting you, ask yourself, "What would I need to believe in order to succeed?"

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and trainer at Inner Resource Center, LLC in Maryville, TN. She specializes in helping people overcome the limiting beliefs that block their success. For more information, contact her at http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/ .

Understand Your Lessons and Live Fully

"Life is a succession of lessons,

which must be lived to be understood."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Each experience we have contains some positive learning for us. When we get the positive learning from our experiences, we are able to let go of any negativity attached to the experience and move on. When you are learning from the experiences you have, you are living life fully, and stand to benefit from it fully. As the saying goes from NLP, "There is no failure; only feedback."

This week: Pay attention to the lessons that may be present in your experiences. Even the most difficult, the most negative contains some learning for you. Embrace what life has to teach you this week. Live your lessons fully!

Linda Pucci, Ph.D. is a psychologist, life coach and trainer. She specializes in helping people get "unstuck" by finding the positive learning in their life experiences, so that they can move on. For more information, go to http://www.innerresourcecenter.com/
